The Austrian soprano Julia Schaffenrath was a member of the International Opera Studio at the Komische Oper Berlin during the 2023/24/25 seasons, where she performed roles such as Sand- und Taumännchen (Hansel and Gretel/ E. Humperdinck), Papagena (The Magic Flute/ W. A. Mozart), Goldener Hahn (Der goldene Hahn/ N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov), Daunenfein and Mutter (Nils Holgerssons wundersame Abenteuer, world premiere/ E. Kats-Chernin), Papierblumenmädchen (Die kleine Hexe, world premiere/ F. Wittenbrink) and Becky Thatcher (Tom Sawyer und Huckleberry Finn/ K. Weill).

During the 2021/22/23 seasons, she portrayed Blondchen in the children’s opera production Die Entführung ins Zauberreich (G. Resch after W. A. Mozart) at the Wiener Staatsoper.

Since 2019, she has been studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree with distinction and is currently undertaking a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance under KS. Edith Lienbacher and Florian Boesch. Since 2023 she is also working with KS Caren van Oijen.  From 2016 to 2019, she studied at the Tyrolean State Conservatory under Mag. Maria Erlacher-Forster, where she gained her first stage experience in student productions, including as Flaminia (Il mondo della luna/J. Haydn), Spirit (Dido and Aeneas/H. Purcell) and as Vogel and Giselher (Die lustigen Nibelungen/O. Straus). She began her training with Markus Forster.

Julia Schaffenrath has won several prizes and was the national winner of the Prima la musica competition. In 2022, she was a semi-finalist in the Pietro Antonio Cesti International Baroque Opera Singing Competition.
